Students Welfare

Office of Students Warden
The Students Warden, who serves as a bridge between the Centre and the students’ democratically elected government, the Mahinya Training Centre for Sustainable Agriculture Students’ Organization (MATCSASO), oversees the student’s welfare (personal, social and spiritual). The office is also responsible for disciplinary matters pertaining to guiding students’ lives in pursuit of their transformation into lifelong learners. Through MATCSASO, the Warden helps the administration to ensure high standard of students well being during their stay at the Centre in the areas listed below.

Residence
The Centre provides accommodation to a limited number of students at the Centre in Mahinya Msindo. In case in campus accommodation is limited, students may be allowed to stay off campus.

Postal and Banking Services
The postal services are located in Songea town about 28 kilometres from the centre. In consultation to Students Warden, students who want to go for postage services may be allowed to go during weekend. Where necessary the Centre may help in letters collection for postage. With regard to banking services are located in Songea town.

Medical Services
The centre is near the Msindo Health Centre and Hanga mission hospital. Cases requiring specialist attention are referred to Regional Hospital in Songea town or Peramiho Hospital which is not far away from Songea town. Students who have health insurance service are encouraged to come with their health insurance cards.

Catering Services
The Centre provides food for students from the Centres Dining hall.

Shopping Services
There are shops within and outside the Centres campus to cater for basic shopping needs.

Religious Services
Students and staff have complete freedom of worship, with essential limits that the enjoyment of this freedom should not, in any way, prevent other members in the community from enjoying their own freedom. Facilities for all major denominations are available within a walking distance from the Centre campuses.

Games and Sports
The Centre has facilities for indoor and outdoor games and sports such as football, athletics, netball, table tennis, Volleyball and darts. Full participation of students in games and sports is highly encouraged for better health and mental fit.

Students Regulations
The Centre’s fundamental purpose is to provide a conducive environment for learning which will only be achieved if its members can work peacefully in conditions which permit freedom of thought and expression within a framework of respect for the rights of other persons.
In implementing the above, there are student’s regulations which address the general student welfare, conduct and disciplinary proceedings and penalties aimed at protecting the Centre from actions which would damage its academic reputation. Acceptance of a place at the Centre is conditional upon agreement by the student to abide with these regulations. The operations and applications of these regulations are without prejudice of the constitution and the general laws of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Library
The library is located at the centre in Mahinya msindo. The library is stocked with various volumes of textbooks, journals and other publications. The Centre procures additional reading materials periodically in order to have an update stock and to cater for newly developed programmes.

IT/Computer room. The Centre provide an IT room with computers were the student take IT lessons and spend sometimes practicing and enjoying technology.

TV Room. The TV Room is a common area where the students can  watch the news, documentaries and movies. The Centre has a Projector which is used for the teaching but also to organise cineforum activities to discuss and advocate specific thematics.

Laboratory
The laboratory is located at the centre in Mahinya Msindo. The laboratory is stocked with various apparatus and equipments for learning purposes.
